La Feria de San Pedro

Do you remember how excited you were as a child when the local fair day finally arrived to your town- the games, the orquestra and the sweets, people smiling, kids running to get the fist free spot on the Fortune Wheel… Do you remember?
Sure you remember, that day we all went crazy!

The Feria of San Pedro is one of the most special ccasions of the year for the locals in town, an old tradition that has certainly changed  during the passing of time, but without loosing its charme and enchantment.

The sreet full of roasted meat, corn or “palomitas” as they call it here, dulces de cocos, lottery,  bagel, sweets, video games galore, tacos, tamales, fried platanos, shooting galleries, plastic toys for kids, traditional music and dance all mixed up with the latest pop songs from the radio.

It is such a big party, and the whole village has been waiting for it for a long time, expecially the children…
Maybe still too young to appreciate and swing themselves with the sound of Marimba, sure not too young to enjoy the magic of dance... And so we went to see the beautiful tradicional Baile del Torito o lo de los Monos, while eating a delicious dulce de platano.
We went to see how the Queen of San Pedro crowned, the most beautiful woman in the town, dressed in tipical clothing. Then we had a round on the Fortune Wheel... Who beautiful San Pedro looks from up here in the sky! After that we felt quite ready to test our luck with the lottery…
And to be honest, lots of luck, all the children won a little something!

Yes, this day, the Fair Day, has something special, something magic, that lets us remember our childness and our children to fly on fantasy wings.
Happy San Pedro Fair Day to all of you, wherever you are.
