Vision Guatemala wishlist's new face - Add some color to our everyday work!

The famous Vision Guatemala Wishlist was an idea of a former volunteer. One day he came into the office and said: "Why don't we use the power of the worldwide web to reach our friends and ask them to help us put together the many many many things we need to add some extra color to our everyday work? Even for our friends on a very small budget it will be just a little effort to get involved. I'm sure everyone back home would love the idea of being an active part of our classroom, borrower training, volunteer home, field trips or Saturday morning activities with the kids."

After giving it a thought we realized that we are actually having a lot of things going on at Vision Guatemala: every week, we run about 20 different educational courses, workshops, and outdoor activities with our beneficiary women and children. We love to realize all those and we even come up with more ideas every day - but ever so often, as they call it here, the pisto is not enough and we have to call off some of these exciting activities because of the shortage of materials. Like every small NGO we are on a tight budget.

The pictures above show our women and children in action: cooking, painting, measuring blood pressure, all of it is part of our colorful program.

So we were thinking: Most of our friends back home are familiar with the use of the internet for almost everything they do in daily life: reading, studying, traveling, loving, hating, supporting, sharing their opinion and so on. We also search and/or buy shoes, movies, homes, cars, clothes, holidays, music, and even boyfriends and girlfriends (!) online...

Why don't we try to use this channel and technology to help our project?

We knew the fact that someone else already's had our idea: over the last years, the web has generated an explosion of sites where with a little contribution you can help someone else realize his dream and be part of a bigger project: They call it crowd funding - the system is not only very functional but also very simple, like in real life, where we are immersed in a network of connections. Often just inside this network we could find all the resources we need to get closer to our goals, and on the other hand we can be the little missing part someone else will need.

Exploring the endless lands of the web, we bumped into Given2: they are quite a new web service that offers online gift list for weddings, baptism, graduation and other special occations.
Not exactly what we do here, you would say...

But there is something about Given2 that makes them special, something we discovered soon...
People behind this project have a very big heart!

Thanks to the generosity of Given2 we were able to create our own wishlist for free: a list of things we need to manage the daily needs of all our activities: from the workshops with children and women to logistics, from the volunteer home to our steadily growing office. Everyone can donate a little, it is not necessary to buy an entire item and you can choose if you rather send your money online or make a transfer through your bank.

We would like to thank Given2 in advance to be our partner in this little adventure!

Now that the new list is ready, we let the web do its part to get to all of you.
With a very little effort, would you like to make some of our dreams come true?
Check it out - you are just one click away. Choose your favorite item from different categories - what you give is what we get!

By becoming a donor through our wishlist you will be informed about our ongoing progress and of course the purchase of your gift. We will be happy to send you pictures of your item in use.

Don't forget to let us know what you think!
Comments are welcome on the wishlist's guestbook or via info@vision-guatemala.org
